Athena
The soap inspired by Athena contains extra virgin olive oil and is scented with thyme. Read on to find out why:
Athena was the Greek goddess of war, wisdom, heroism, and craft. She was one of the Olympian gods and daughter of Zeus, king of the gods. She was born, fully armed with spear and shield, from the split head of Zeus. Athena was honored and held in high esteem throughout Greece.
One of the most famous myths about Athena tells how she became the patron goddess of the city that would eventually bear her name: Athens. The battle for this honor was between Athena and her uncle Poseidon, god of the seas. Both offered the city a gift to secure their dominance. Poseidon struck the ground with his trident, creating a saltwater spring. Athena donated the first olive tree, a tree of great significance in the Mediterranean and a symbol of peace. Thanks to this gift, Athena was chosen as the patron goddess of the city, which has been known as Athens ever since.
In ancient Greece, thyme symbolized courage and strength. Warriors carried thyme to boost their courage for battle. In modern aromatherapy, thyme is used to improve concentration and boost self-confidence. Although thyme isn't directly associated with Athena, its symbolism fits with the purpose for which she was revered.
